2023 Annual Report - Nch’ḵay̓ Development Corporation
Red Rocket Creative contracted me to write the 2023 annual report for their client, Nch’ḵay̓ Development Corporation. I gathered information for the report by conducting stakeholder interviews and through written documentation provided by Nch’ḵay̓’s leadership and communications teams.

My Approach
I wrote this report for Nch’ḵay̓ Development Corporation’s two primary stakeholder groups:
The Squamish People, who are the shareholders and beneficiaries of Nch’ḵay̓ Development Corporation, and Squamish Nation Council and leadership.
Government partners, lenders, institutional investors, and other external stakeholders interested in Indigenous economic development.
While the previous year's report had focused on detailed departmental reporting, the 2023 report had to show key outcomes for Squamish People and a clear alignment with Squamish Nation priorities. and values. To achieve this, I focused on:
Clarifying what Nch’ḵay̓ Development Corporation is and does, emphasizing that it is part of the Squamish Nation (not separate from it), what its priorities are, and how it exists to generate wealth and prosperity for the Squamish People.
Highlighting the number of Squamish and Indigenous People employed by Nch’ḵay̓, and the number of Squamish businesses on its Nch’ú7mut Endorsed Business Registry.
Emphasizing Nch’ḵay̓’s shared values with the Nation, and how these values guide its operations.
Clearly and transparently reporting on the progress of various divisions and projects.
I wove Nch’ḵay̓ leadership’s chosen themes of building the foundation and collaboration throughout the report. I also introduced sections on strategic planning and approaches to organizational decision-making. These appear in the report as sections on:
Foundation and capacity building, laying the groundwork for future growth.
Communicating the strategic plan and how it guides Nch’ḵay̓’s activities.
Nch’ḵay̓;’s collaborative approach to financial decisions.
In comparison to the previous year’s report, I improved flow by restructuring pagination, moving the financial snapshot closer to the beginning of the document, and adopting a first-person “we” voice. These changes resulted in a report that was easy to read, cohesive, and focused on the benefits of Nch’ḵay̓'s work for the Squamish People, while reinforcing its shared vision with the Nation.
